Onshore: A working trip to Sakhalin for the Minister of Natural Resources
Yuri Trutnev, Russia’s Minister of Natural Resources visited the Sakhalin-2 facilities recently.
As part of an audit to verify compliance with the Environmental Action Plan (EAP), Mr Trutnev visited several areas of the Trans-Sakhalin pipeline - at the high commercial fishing river Ai, Sovetskoye, the Podgornaya river and seismic fault crossing 18.
I assess the work that has been accomplished here so far, as excellent
Sakhalin Energy has put a wide range of measures in place since the Minister’s last visit to Sakhalin two years ago. Spawning river banks have been reinstated and their adjacent slopes stabilised as well as drainage and seeding work being carried out.
During a press conference with the Governor of the Sakhalin Oblast, Alexander Khoroshavin, Mr Trutnev said that he assessed the work that has been accomplished so far as excellent. “It is where the latest technologies, international practices and achievements are applied. The relationship with the environment is getting better and so are the relationships with environmental organisations.”
The EAP was prepared following two integrated audits performed by RPN in 2006. The plan incorporates a series of extra measures as well as corrective items identified earlier including reinstatement of the Right-of-Way (RoW), reinstatement of river banks, removal of excavated spoil, erosion control measures and stabilisation of steep and sliding slopes.
