Sakhalin-2 project operator ranked first among oil and gas industries in the 2020 social performance rating of the largest Russian companies as published by the AK&M agency.
During the ranking, the country's leading companies with the best sustainable development practices were assessed. Gasprom and Surgutneftegas were also ranked top three, taking the second and third positions respectively.
For calculations, the agency referred to open-source data. The assessment was based on two criteria groups: the social effect of the business activities, and its environmental load.
According to Natalia Gonchar, Head of Corporate Affairs Department, the 2020 challenges gave a powerful stimulus for the company, causing it to boost re-evaluation and update of environmental and social programmes. Sakhalin Energy expanded them with regard to the region’s actual needs, providing additional support to the health care system, and vulnerable communities.
The company makes a disclosure on its non-financial activities (environmental, social, and other programmes and initiatives) in its Sustainable Development Reports every year. The information given in this document has laid a basis for the AK&M agency ranking.
